Maternity & Newborn Photography | Imelda Bell | Maidstone Kent

I am currently sitting in the departure lounge at Gatwick Airport, where I have been for 4 hours, as my flight is delayed. I should be landing soon, but we haven’t even left yet, so I thought I would take the time to reflect on the week that’s just gone by.

On Tuesday, I drove up to Coventry to attend “Photohubs” which is a great conference and training event, with photographers, trainers and other members of the trade in attendance.

This year, amongst the amazing line up, was one of the world’s top maternity and newborn photographers, Ana Brandt, and I was lucky enough to assist her in her workshops.

It was lovely to meet her and see how she works, and everyone learned so much from being there.

(Unless stated, the images in this post are all unedited iPhone photos, not professional images!)

We had 2 maternity models on the day, so had the opportunity to see a few different set ups and outfits.

Ana demonstrated the lighting that she uses, as well as posing, and we learned so many little tips and tricks that we hadn’t thought of before. I love Ana’s style of maternity, as it is so clean and stylish, and I am looking forward to adapting what I learned  in my own maternity sessions, both indoors and outdoors.

Everyone had a chance to shoot, so we all had images to take home and edit.

This is one I took, and edited, adding a texture to fit with my style.

With my brain buzzing from all I had learned, I headed out to have some fun at the Christmas Party with my fellow photographers, but not too much, as I had an early start the next morning for Ana’s newborn workshop, where again, I was assisting her.

We had the most beautiful little girl, Birdie, who was just 13 days old, and even with the large number of people in the room, she slept like a dream. It was amazing to watch Ana, settle and wrap her, and again she had some amazing tips that I hadn’t seen before.

Below are some images from the work shop.

I did have a bit of fun with the boomerang app, as Ana uses a yoga ball to sit on for the sessions, (it looks like a great way to bounce the baby too), so her are some fun clips of her with baby Birdie.

Feeling very inspired, as I had a newborn session booked in for the following day, I created a Christmas setup inspired by one of Ana’s.

(I will be adding a blog post soon about this session, but here is a sneak peek of one of the images)

For my newborn images, please see my gallery and information.

My maternity images will be added soon.
